Celtic will reportedly face significant competition in their bid to sign Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson on a Bosman deal this summer.

The Scotland international has officially confirmed that he will leave Anfield when his contract expires at the end of June, and several top European clubs are understood to be interested in securing his signature on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old rejected the chance to join Atletico Madrid last summer and Tottenham Hotspur in January, but both teams are expected to rekindle their interest in his signature ahead of next season.

That is according to The Times, who have revealed that Serie A duo Juventus and Napoli have also been alerted to Robertson’s availability on a Bosman deal.

This has been confirmed by Sky Sports, who also report that Robertson is wanted by Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Napoli and Spurs.

Celtic aren’t mentioned as possible suitors for the Liverpool legend by either publication and while Robertson has previously hinted that he would be interested in moving to the Glasgow giants when he departs Anfield, a deal remains complicated and fairly unlikely.

The Hoops already have Robertson’s international team-mate Kieran Tierney as their first choice left-back, and the Liverpool defender is expected to be offered the chance to stay at a club in Europe’s top five leagues, which could prove too good to turn down.

What has Andy Robertson said?

Speaking to Liverpool’s club website after announcing his departure, Robertson said: “It’s never easy leaving a club like Liverpool, it has been a huge part of mine and my family’s life for the last nine years. But for me, players move on, other people move on – the thing that stays the same is the club and obviously the fans.

“I’ve had an amazing nine years here. Look, I think it has been well-documented, especially over the last year or so, I’ve had opportunities to leave and I’ve not taken them because of how difficult it is to leave this club. And I wouldn’t change that for the world.

“But I know football moves on, I know teams move on and I think now is the time for me to move on and go wherever my next move is and wherever my career takes me. I’ll always look back on amazing memories at this football club, I’ve put my heart and soul into the club for nine years and I’ve not got many regrets.

“I’ve grown as a man and as a person. This club will always mean the world to me, the fans will mean the world to me. It has been a hell of a journey.”
