Confirmed: Mikel Arteta wants to sign €100m striker
The agent of Bayer Leverkusen striker Christian Kofane has confirmed that Arsenal want to sign his client during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The 19-year-old has excelled in his debut campaign at Leverkusen, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists in 39 games across all competitions, and he caught the eye in their 3-1 aggregate defeat to Arsenal in the Champions League last-16.
His performances across the two legs impressed Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, and the north London giants have been linked with a summer switch ever since.
Viktor Gyokeres has been Arsenal’s preferred striker since his arrival from Sporting CP last year, but he is yet to display his best form in a Gunners shirt, while reports suggest that Gabriel Jesus could be set to depart on a permanent deal following the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.
Atletico Madrid superstar Julian Alvarez has been earmarked as a top target by the Emirates Stadium hierarchy ahead of this summer, but the club are also keeping close tabs on Kofane’s development at Leverkusen, as confirmed by Sky Germany.
Meanwhile, Kofane’s agent, Eric Depolo, has now backed up such claims.
Confirmed: Arsenal want to sign Christian Kofane
Speaking to Daily Arsenal, Depolo admitted: “Arsenal’s interest is genuine. The manager likes him very much. There is contact between me and Arsenal. But their focus right now is to win the league - from there everything will start moving.
“He is a €100 million player. With Kofane, Arsenal will have a top striker for the next 10 years.”
When asked which other clubs are interested in signing the 19-year-old, Depolo said: “Chelsea, Newcastle, Everton, Brentford, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
“I have never had as many calls in my life as now regarding Kofane. Right now, he is the best U21 striker in Europe and the most complete one. He has speed, technique, defends very well and is strong in the air. It is very difficult to find all these attributes in one striker.”
Arsenal are expected to target a new full-back, a new central midfielder and a new winger this summer, but Depolo has revealed that Arteta’s side are currently leading the race to sign Kofane too.
“I think it is too early to say, but due to the fact that the player speaks Spanish, like Mikel Arteta, and that William Saliba is originally from Cameroon, I would say Arsenal are in pole position,” he added.
