Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte will be scouted by Juventus this evening, according to Italian media.

The Uruguay international is expected to be on the move this summer after failing to live up to the hype at Man Utd. Signed for €50 million in 2024, Ugarte has proved a hugely disappointing signing.

Accordingly, a change of scenery is on the cards after this season. Ugarte has been fielding interest from Serie A clubs for a year, and it seems a move to Italy is likely.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Juventus, in particular, are very keen on signing the 24-year-old. Indeed, their interest in him dates back to his Sporting CP days. They previously attempted to sign him on loan from PSG and Man Utd.

With Ugarte on the outside looking in at Man Utd, the Bianconeri's efforts could finally meet with success this summer. Signing a midfielder is certainly a priority for the Turin club.

Ugarte's transfer audition

It is quite convenient, then, that Ugarte will be playing in Juventus' backyard this evening. Uruguay take on Algeria at the Allianz Stadium later today, and club bosses will be keenly watching.

CEO Damien Comolli and sporting director Marco Ottolini will be in attendance to watch Ugarte in the flesh in what could be a transfer audition of sorts for the midfielder.

If he impresses against Algeria, the Old Lady could be compelled to make a move, although a lot will still hinge on other factors. For one, Champions League qualification will be crucial in deciding Juventus' summer budget.

There is also the question of what happens with Teun Koopmeiners, an underwhelming €55m signing in 2024. Galatasaray are said to be keen on the Netherlands international.

Ugarte would be a replacement, though not a like-for-like one. However, Bernardo Silva also remains a key target for the Serie A giants, and he would not only be more similar to Koopmeiners, but he would also be available on a free transfer.
