Casemiro replacement: Man Utd target's price halved as transfer 'agreed'
Manchester United remain firmly in the mix to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson despite claims of an agreement with Atletico Madrid.
The Brazilian will take the next step in his career this summer after being repeatedly linked with Europe's biggest clubs in recent years. In November, his agent Andre Cury confirmed that Ederson is likely to leave Atalanta in 2026.
The player's representative also raised eyebrows when he claimed that he would cost just €30 million to €40m. This is a significant reduction from the Bergamo club's previous asking price of over €60m.
No move materialised in January because the Serie A side lost Ademola Lookman to Atletico Madrid. Atalanta want to avoid selling multiple key players in one window, so Ederson was told he would have to stay until the summer.
With the season slowly but surely drawing to a close, the midfielder's future is once again coming into focus. According to Tuttomercatoweb, it is true that Ederson will likely leave and that Atalanta are willing to listen to offers as low as €30m.
Man Utd still in for Ederson
Crucially, the report disputes claims from other Italian sources that Ederson is all but guaranteed to join Atletico Madrid. While it is acknowledged that the Spanish giants are concretely interested, the player's destination is not yet set in stone.
Earlier in the week, it was asserted that the 26-year-old already had a "preliminary agreement" to join Atleti in place. Negotiations between the two clubs were also expected to proceed smoothly due to the strong relationship that already exists after completing several deals recently.
Evidently, however, things are not quite as advanced yet. Indeed, Man Utd reportedly remain firmly in the mix to sign the Brazilian as they seek a replacement for compatriot Casemiro, who has announced that he will leave as a free agent this summer.
With his price significantly lower than in previous years, Man Utd must give the possible signing of Ederson serious consideration. The midfielder's contract expires in 2027, so Atalanta will have no choice but to sell him this summer.
