Fabrizio Romano Transfer News: Man Utd confirmation, Real Madrid's next signing, Bastoni truth
Football news expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on several major transfer stories ahead of this summer, including the latest on Casemiro, Nico Paz and Alessandro Bastoni.
Nico Paz latest
Como starlet Nico Paz is expected to rejoin Real Madrid this summer and Romano has confirmed that a deal is close in his latest YouTube video,
“Last night, playing for Argentina at La Bombonera, he scored his first goal for the national team in a victory, confirming the excellent form he has shown over the past season,” he said.
“He has been outstanding at club level, continuing the impressive performances he delivered last season. His team are currently fourth in Serie A and dreaming of a Champions League place, which would be an extraordinary achievement considering their recent rise. Cesc Fabregas is doing a remarkable job there, and Nico Paz has already produced 17 goal contributions this season.
“His progress is not going unnoticed, especially regarding his future. As I have reported since December, the expectation remains that he will be part of Real Madrid’s long-term project, potentially as early as the 2026-27 season. That is the original plan, with Real Madrid maintaining full control over the player.
“To give you context, in August 2025, Tottenham made an approach through intermediaries worth €50 million plus €20m in add-ons. The response from his club was clear - they wanted to keep the player - and Real Madrid also intervened, making it clear they control the situation and could match any offer.
“Real Madrid hold a buy-back clause for this summer worth €9m, which is exceptionally low for a talent of this calibre, and a slightly higher clause for summer 2027. The expectation is that Real Madrid will activate this option in 2026. The contractual framework is already in place, with an agreement signed on the player side. It is now simply a matter of the club deciding when to proceed.”
Joselu future
Meanwhile, former Real Madrid striker Joselu is set to be available on a Bosman deal during the upcoming summer transfer window.
“Joselu is currently playing in Qatar with Al-Gharafa, but he has decided to leave the club at the end of the season and will be available on the market,” Romano revealed.
“There is already interest from several clubs, and he would be open to a return to European football if the right opportunity arises.
“He represents a valuable option as a free agent - an experienced striker with proven goal-scoring ability and international experience. He could become an attractive target for multiple clubs during the summer transfer window.”
Casemiro exit plan
Casemiro will leave Manchester United when his contract expires in July and Romano has confirmed that Inter Miami are interested in finalising a deal for his signature.
The transfer expert said: “Now to another major name, Casemiro. As I have reported in recent days, he is still expected to leave Manchester United. Despite his strong performances in recent months and the club’s improved form under Michael Carrick, his decision has not changed.
“He had already indicated in January his intention to move on, and he confirmed again in a recent interview that he plans to leave. While fans would love to see him stay, especially with the possibility of Champions League football, his plan remains clear.
“What I can tell you is that Inter Miami are showing concrete and serious interest. Negotiations between Casemiro, his representatives, and the MLS club have already begun regarding a potential free transfer this summer.
“The main point of discussion will be financial terms, as his current salary at Manchester United is significantly higher than typical MLS structures. It remains to be seen whether an agreement can be reached, but Inter Miami are actively working on the deal.
“Casemiro is genuinely interested in the move. He is attracted by the club’s project, the ambition, and the opportunity to play alongside Lionel Messi. There are also personal and family considerations influencing his thinking. Talks are ongoing, and Inter Miami are currently leading the race, although there is also interest from European and Saudi clubs."
Alessandro Bastoni wanted by Barcelona
Finally, Romano confirmed that Barcelona are firmly interested in signing Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni this summer.
“Barcelona’s interest is genuine and should not be dismissed as speculation or a negotiating tactic,” he admitted.
“There have already been initial conversations between Barcelona and the player’s representatives. The interest is strong, and Bastoni is fully aware of it. Discussions on the player side are ongoing, and this is a deal Barcelona are actively exploring.
“However, there is currently no negotiation between the clubs. Reports of swap deals, including names such as Gerard Martin, are not accurate at this stage. Barcelona are not offering players in exchange, and Inter have not made such requests.
“Both clubs are focused on their respective competitions - Barcelona in the Champions League and La Liga, and Inter in the Serie A title race - so formal talks have not yet begun.
“As we approach the summer, the situation may evolve. Financial expectations remain unclear, with various figures being reported, but Inter consider Bastoni a key player and have no intention of placing him on the market. Any potential deal would require a significant offer.
“For now, the conversations are limited to the player side, with no club-to-club negotiations underway, but this is certainly a situation to monitor closely as the transfer window approaches.”
