Chelsea make Josh Acheampong sale decision
Chelsea reportedly have no intention of allowing Josh Acheampong to depart the club this summer, despite rumoured interest from multiple top European teams.
The England U21 international is regarded as one of the best prospects to emerge from Chelsea’s famed academy in recent years and he has already racked up 38 first-team appearances at just 19 years old.
But, Acheampong has fallen down the pecking order since Mamadou Sarr’s return from a loan spell at Strasbourg in February and this has ignited fresh reports that he could be sold on a permanent deal by the Stamford Bridge hierarchy.
Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool, Newcastle United and Real Madrid are all understood to be monitoring Acheampong’s situation in west London, as per CaughtOffside, and it’s claimed that offers of just €30 million could test Chelsea’s resolve.
However, Football Insider have confirmed that Liam Rosenior’s side have no interest in selling Acheampong this summer. Instead, they intend to hand him a more prominent role in the senior side next season.
Acheampong has only started seven Premier League matches so far this campaign and it has been widely reported the 19-year-old isn’t satisfied with his current game time at Stamford Bridge. Despite this, the Chelsea hierarchy will not open the door to a sale.
Analysis: Josh Acheampong set to stay at Chelsea
News that Acheampong is unlikely to depart Chelsea on a permanent deal during the upcoming summer transfer window will be received extremely well by Blues supporters.
The England youngster is expected to enjoy an excellent career at the highest level and many fans have feared an exit in a similar vein to fellow academy graduates Lewis Hall and Valentino Livramento - both of whom are now excelling at Newcastle.
However, a sale is set to be rejected by the Chelsea hierarchy and Acheampong is expected to establish himself as a regular in the Blues’ starting XI over the next few seasons.
