Arsenal Transfer News Today: Talks with €100m star start as Pio Esposito alternative eyed
All the latest Arsenal transfer news in one place, including updates on Francesco Pio Esposito, Declan Rice and Julian Alvarez.
Arsenal start Rice talks
Arsenal have opened talks with star midfielder Declan Rice over a new long-term contract, according to Sami Mokbel and Fabrizio Romano.
Discussions are at an early stage, but there is optimism from all parties that an agreement can be reached. There is no rush as Rice is still tied to the club until 2028, with an option until 2029.
In addition to Rice, Arsenal are also expected to hand Jurrien Timber fresh terms shortly. Like Rice, the Netherlands international is currently under contract until 2028.
Arsenal identify Pio Esposito Plan B
Arsenal have reignited their interest in Bologna striker Santiago Castro, according to RTI Esporte.
FootballTransfers exclusively revealed Arsenal's interest in the Argentine last spring, and they are now once again monitoring the 21-year-old amid uncertainty over whether a deal for Inter wonderkid Francesco Pio Esposito is possible.
The Nerazzurri don't want to sell the Italy international, whereas Bologna could be willing to cash in on Castro if a fee in the region of €40 million is offered.
Alvarez ready to move
Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez is ready to return to the Premier League this summer, according to TEAMtalk.
The Argentina international would prefer to stay in Spain and sign for Barcelona, but he is not convinced that the Catalans have the means to match Atleti's significant financial demands.
As a result, Alvarez is willing to return to the Premier League, where Arsenal and Chelsea are his most persistent suitors. Any deal will likely cost north of €100m.
Mayulu to leave PSG
Senny Mayulu's contract talks with PSG have reached a "point of no return" after the youngster rejected the club's third offer, according to Dominique Severac.
Though Mayulu is rated highly, it would be a surprise if PSG were to revise their offer once again. It is therefore believed that he will be sold this summer.
Arsenal and Chelsea have been linked with a move, and he could be particularly interesting to the Gunners amid reports that Kai Havertz could be sold this summer to balance the books.
