Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has reportedly identified Sunderland midfielder Enzo Le Fee as a surprise priority target for the 2026 summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old helped Regis Le Bris’ side secure promotion back to the Premier League last season, after arriving on loan from AS Roma in January, and the deal became permanent for a fee of €23 million in the summer.

Le Fee has since established himself as an integral player for the Black Cats in the English top flight and he has scored four goals and provided four assists in 29 league appearances so far this campaign, largely from an attacking midfield position.

Arsenal already have Martin Odegaard, Eberechi Eze, Kai Havertz and Mikel Merino to cover this role at the Emirates Stadium, in addition to Olympique Marseille loanee Ethan Nwaneri, but they have earmarked Le Fee as a potential summer signing.

That is according to Spanish publication Fichajes, who claim that Arteta views the former Lorient star as an ideal candidate to bolster his midfield ranks ahead of next season.

It’s reported that a fee of €50m may be required to tempt Sunderland into a sale during the upcoming summer window, but he is regarded as one of Arsenal’s top transfer targets as they look to build on an extremely impressive 2025-26 campaign.

Verdict: Arsenal to sign Enzo Le Fee?

Although Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Le Fee this summer, a deal feels incredibly unlikely given the plethora of options already available to Arteta.

Furthermore, FootballTransfers understands that Arsenal are likely to pursue a new right-back, a new central midfielder and at least one new forward when the window opens, and funds may be somewhat limited following their spending spree last year.

As a result, Le Fee is unlikely to become an Arsenal player this summer, despite Arteta’s reported desire to bring him to north London.
