Fabrizio Romano CONFIRMS Chelsea transfer agreement
Chelsea have reached a full agreement on personal terms with Stade Rennais defender Jeremy Jacquet as they close in on a deal for the 20-year-old.
Liam Rosenior’s side have ramped up their pursuit of a new centre-back over the past few days and they have opted to finalise terms with Jacquet after initially shortlisting Jacobo Ramon (Como) and Marcos Senesi (Bournemouth) as alternative options.
The France U21 international is regarded as one of the best young defenders in European football and he has been heavily linked with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United amid his impressive rise to stardom.
However, Chelsea look set to win the race for his signature before the end of the January transfer window, as per Fabrizio Romano.
The football transfer news specialist posted on X: “Chelsea have agreed personal terms with Jeremy Jacquet, the clear main target at centre back.
“Contract ready, player keen and talks ongoing with Rennes asking for [a] club record sale fee around €65m. Chelsea bid [is] currently lower. A mission to France already took place.”
It’s also claimed that Jacquet has informed Rennes of his desire to join Chelsea this winter, although an agreement between the two clubs has not yet been reached.
Kendry Paez decision
Meanwhile, Chelsea could also opt to recall Kendry Paez from his loan spell at sister club Strasbourg after failing to make an impression in France.
Romano has confirmed that talks are ongoing over the best possible solution, with Paez potentially set to return to Chelsea before being sent elsewhere on loan for the remainder of the season.
The Ecuador international, who moved to Stamford Bridge on a permanent deal last summer, has started just four Ligue 1 matches so far this campaign and a header against Paris FC in September is the only goal contribution he has mustered in 20 matches.
