Arsenal in dreamland as €150m striker edges closer to move
Atletico Madrid are reportedly keeping close tabs on the form of Julian Alvarez as they prepare for a bidding war this summer.
The Argentina international has been an integral member of Diego Simeone’s side since his arrival from Manchester City for €75 million in 2024 and he has been heavily linked with a Wanda Metropolitano departure in recent months.
Barcelona and Chelsea have both been tipped to pursue a deal for the 25-year-old during the 2026 summer transfer window, with the former identifying him as their dream long-term replacement for Poland legend Robert Lewandowski.
Meanwhile, Arsenal were interested in a potential deal for Alvarez last summer and they could be tempted to rekindle their interest in the Argentina striker amid Viktor Gyokeres’ goalscoring woes so far this campaign.
The 27-year-old has only scored eight goals in 25 matches since his arrival from Sporting CP and he has scored just one non-penalty goal in the Premier League in his last 15 appearances in the competition.
With Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz now back to full fitness, Gyokeres could be set to lose his place in Arsenal’s starting XI over the next few weeks and the Gunners could feasibly even look to sign a new striker this summer if his form doesn’t improve.
Julian Alvarez to Arsenal?
Alvarez would undoubtedly be a top target for Arsenal if they decide to re-enter the centre forward market later this year, and Spanish publication Fichajes claim that Atletico Madrid would be forced to consider a sale if they receive a suitable offer.
Several clubs across Europe were reportedly interested in submitting a €150m bid for Alvarez, however his recent dip in form has seen his market value drop, as per Fichajes.
The ex-Man City star is without a goal in his last eight La Liga games and although he has netted on 11 occasions across all competitions so far this season, his valuation has reportedly decreased.
As a result, Arsenal could find themselves in pole position to land Alvarez if they launch a serious pursuit of his signature this summer.
