Arsenal in talks to sign their next superstar midfielder
Arsenal are reportedly in talks to sign Corinthians midfielder Breno Bidon amid competition from clubs in Italy and Portugal.
Mikel Arteta’s side spent a whopping €294.6 million on new signings last summer, but they remain eager to add reinforcements as they look to establish themselves as a dominant force in English football over the next few years.
FootballTransfers understands that Newcastle United full-back Valentino Livramento is being closely monitored by the Emirates Stadium hierarchy ahead of a potential swoop later this year, while the Gunners have also rekindled their interest in Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.
Despite this, reports suggest that Arsenal are unlikely to be particularly active during the January transfer window, with the club instead keen to retain squad harmony amid their pursuit of a first Premier League title since 2004.
Rumours that Gabriel Jesus could return to Brazil this month have died down in recent weeks, and the north London outfit reportedly have no intention of allowing Ben White to leave the club before Deadline Day, despite interest from David Moyes’ Everton.
Meanwhile, a pursuit of RB Leipzig starlet Yan Diomande is expected to wait until this summer.
However, Arsenal have decided to initiate negotiations with Corinthians over a winter deal for the aforementioned Bidon, as per TNT Sports in Brazil.
Breno Bidon to join Arsenal?
Bidon, 20, has already racked up over 100 first-team appearances for Corinthians and Arsenal have now reportedly contacted the Brazilian club in an attempt to gauge the possibility of a transfer agreement.
The Gunners are yet to submit a formal offer for the midfielder, but they are interested in bringing him to north London this year amid a string of excellent performances for Corinthians.
However, they may be required to act swiftly in the race for Bidon’s signature as Flamengo are considering launching a formal bid, while several unnamed clubs in Italy and Portugal are also keeping tabs on his development.
