Man Utd BOMB drops as Elliot Anderson talks start
Manchester United's start to 2026 has gone from bad to worse as Manchester City have opened talks to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, according to a report.
The Red Devils are planning to revamp their engine room this year and have earmarked the 23-year-old as their top target. However, Man Utd have so far refrained from holding talks with Anderson as there is an acceptance that he will not move mid-season.
Forest are in a strong position to dictate his price this month and, naturally, have absolutely no intention to sell. It will be a different story in the summer, however.
Anderson's contract has been described as "complicated," and it is believed that there are mechanisms in his deal that allow him to depart the City Ground for a reasonable fee in the next window.
Man Utd will be at the front of the queue for the England star, but they are at risk of getting beaten to the punch by their local rivals Man City, who have already managed to pip the Red Devils to the signing of Antoine Semenyo.
Man City open Anderson talks
According to TEAMtalk, the Cityzens have now officially made contact to sign the midfielder. Man City are preparing what is being termed a "strong push" for Anderson.
City have formally registered their interest in the 24-year-old with his representatives, and they are planning to go big on him in the summer transfer window.
Pep Guardiola is said to be a huge admirer, with Anderson deemed a perfect fit for the Spaniard's style of play. City's contacts with Anderson have "spooked" Man Utd, it is claimed.
The Old Trafford outfit are well aware of City's many advantages after the Semenyo debacle and fear that Anderson could be the next target they fail to get their hands on.
The report adds that Anderson is open to a switch to the Etihad and that there are "whispers" in the industry that City will have no trouble securing his signature if they decide to formally act on their interest.
