Nottingham Forest midfielder and top Manchester United target Elliot Anderson will be 'significantly' cheaper than expected, according to reliable journalist Ben Jacobs.

The England international is quickly emerging as one of the Premier League's most sought-after midfielders. His ability to cover ground, in combination with his excellent passing, makes Anderson a hugely attractive commodity.

Man Utd, in particular, have been heavily linked with a move for him, and it is understood that he is among their top targets for the midfield heading into 2026.

Journalist Ben Jacobs believes that Man Utd will sign at least two, potentially even three, new midfielders next year, depending on outgoings and opportunities. He expects a relatively low-key January window, with only Conor Gallagher a potential reinforcement for the Red Devils.

Regarding Anderson, Jacobs has provided some hugely intriguing information. It has been claimed that the 23-year-old could fetch well in excess of £100 million if he were to move next summer, but the journalist is hearing something very, very different.

Anderson will cost nowhere near £100m

Speaking on The United Stand YouTube channel, Jacobs insisted that he could not reveal too much, but he strongly hinted that Anderson will be 'significantly' cheaper than initially expected.

This is due to a 'complicated' contract, which possibly includes a confidential release clause similar to Morgan Gibbs-White's previous deal, which almost saw him move to Tottenham. Ultimately, the transfer collapsed because Forest threatened legal action over a breach of confidentiality.

It is not uncommon for journalists not to be allowed to disclose the exact details of contract clauses. Just last week, Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg stated that he is not allowed to reveal the fee of the release clause of breakout Bundesliga striker and Barcelona target Fisnik Asllani.

"I can't say too much," Jacobs explained, "because I know a bit more than I would say I'm willing to report, but don't be surprised that when Anderson is looking for a move, it's a little bit cheaper than some reports are suggesting at the moment.

"Nothing on record at this point [that I'm allowed to share], but just don't be surprised if the price is significantly lower than £100m. It reminds me of Alexis Mac Allister, too, when he left Brighton for Liverpool and for months and months and months it was £60m, £70m, £80m. He ended up joining Liverpool for £35m.

"Anderson's contract is quite complicated, and I would be staggered if anybody needs to pay £100m to get him out of Nottingham Forest. It's just a case of whether he leaves next summer, whether he does another year.

"You know, when we were first speaking about it, we were thinking, 'Forest - European football, Forest - ambitious project, Forest are going to build, they basically got two squads, one for Europe, one for the first team, they made loads of good signings over the summer.' But of course, this situation could also be influenced if they go the other way.

"So there is a price, as far as I'm aware, for the summer, and I think it will be a whole lot lower than £100m, and if the unthinkable happens to Forest and, for example, they were to go down, he'll be even cheaper and available on the market as well."
