Mo Salah to sign enormous new contract 'soon'
Mo Salah is poised to sign a €170 million contract with the Saudi Pro League, with the Liverpool legend is expected to leave Anfield “soon”.
Salah came within weeks of becoming a free agent before signing a new deal with the Reds last summer, but FootballTransfers revealed that he will leave Anfield at the end of this season.
Rumours have long linked the Egypt international with a move to Saudi Arabia, where he would become the league’s biggest signing since Cristiano Ronaldo arrived in December 2022.
With Salah’s form taking a significant dip in recent weeks, to such an extent that he has been left on the bench at times by manager Arne Slot, these suggestions have only gained further traction.
Saudi is set to tempt him with a deal worth a staggering €170m a year compared to the estimated €24m he currently earns at Liverpool.
Mo Salah to follow Cristiano Ronaldo to Saudi
An agreement is likely to be made “soon”, according to former Everton CEO Keith Wyness, who now runs a football consultancy.
He believes that Salah is in line for an enormous paycheque worth around €170 million per year.
“It’s definitely that sort of £150m level, if not more, because he’s going to be doing a lot of ads,” he told The Inside Track podcast.
“I think Salah is such an important figure throughout the whole Middle East, not only in Egypt and Saudi, but he would be a dramatic figure for them. He’s so well thought of; he’s a very powerful figure commercially.
“As a tourist ambassador as well as other things, he would certainly be commanding £150m if not more. When I’ve been in Saudi Arabia, the way that Salah is revered is incredible. It’s even more so in Egypt, when I’ve seen that as well. So, he has that opportunity.
“They’ve left the offer open but he’ll have to go fairly soon because it’s best to go when you’re at the top. They might be thinking okay, it’s time to make a move while we’ve still got some good years in our legs and show some spectacular things.
“Ronaldo has knocked in some amazing numbers since he’s been in Saudi and he’s still banging goals in and some really quality goals as well. I think Salah wants to do the same, have some good years down there, so I would expect the move sooner than later.”
