Marc Guehi: Crystal Palace star’s ‘likeliest’ destination revealed
Marc Guehi is wanted by Premier League sides Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal, but the England international defender is likelier to move abroad in a surprising twist.
Bayern Munich are currently favourites to land the Crystal Palace centre-back, where he would hook up with Three Lions colleague Harry Kane at the Allianz Arena.
Guehi’s contract is up at the end of the season, at which point he will be able to leave the Selhurst Park club as a free agent.
Clubs from abroad can already contact the 25-year-old and negotiate terms with him, and according to FootMercato, this has allowed Bayern to steal a march over their Premier League rivals with regards a transfer.
FCB are seen as Guehi’s likeliest destination, with the player holding a preference to move to the Bundesliga. It claims that the “odds favour the Munich club”.
Man City step up bid
Manchester City, meanwhile, continue to chase a deal for Guehi, with the French source indicating that they are “accelerating” on their bid. Pep Guardiola’s side are trying to take advantage of Palace potentially losing him for nothing by landing him on a bargain deal.
City’s need for reinforcements at the back has been brought about due to long-term injuries to Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias, while John Stones is also sidelined.
The Independent indicates City are “intent” on capturing the player this January, though Palace manager Oliver Glasner is set to resist any bids for the player, having been decisive in blocking the defender’s move to Liverpool last summer.
It adds that this interest could force clubs eager to sign Guehi in the summer to increase their offers.
Glasner on Guehi and Man City’s January transfer hopes
Glasner has admitted that Palace may be forced to sell if the right offer for the player comes in.
"Honestly, I don't know what will happen," he said about the centre-back last week. "If you're just valuing sports, everyone in the club will say Marc has to stay.
"The chairman will tell you the same. But it's not one-dimensional.
"Nothing in life is one-dimensional. So if you see the financial situation, it's very important. Everybody wants him to play for Crystal Palace, sign a new contract and stay here forever.
"That's what everybody will tell you. On the other side, there's the situation the contract ends in summer and, if somebody is coming, there will be a moment when the club says, now the financial issue is more important than the sport issue.
"I'm not so naive not to know that if a massive offer comes from City and Marc wants to do it, it will happen."
