Chelsea told Victor Osimhen has 'no finishing ability' after transfer u-turn
Chelsea have been told that Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen “has no finishing ability” following rumours they have rekindled their interest in his signature.
The Nigeria superstar was heavily linked with a blockbuster move to Stamford Bridge over the summer, however Enzo Maresca’s side were unwilling to match his wage demands and he eventually joined Galatarasaray on a permanent deal for a club record fee of €75 million.
Since his arrival in Istanbul on a permanent deal, Osimhen has scored 12 goals in 16 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, Chelsea summer signings Joao Pedro and Liam Delap have both struggled this campaign, and the Blues have been tipped to purchase another new striker in 2026.
Rumours have speculated that Chelsea have once again identified Osimhen as a top target, and his goalscoring pedigree suggests that he would be an excellent addition for the reigning Club World Cup winners.
However, former Turkish Super Lig referee Erman Toroglu has taken aim at Osimhen’s ability following his performance against Antalyaspor on Saturday - a game in which he scored.
’Victor Osimhen has no finishing ability’
“We say Osimhen, he’s quick, agile, okay, but Osimhen doesn’t have [Mauro] Icardi’s shooting technique,” Toroglu told Ekol TV (via Daily Post Nigeria).
“If those balls in this match had gone to Icardi, he would have scored, I’m saying this clearly. A good Icardi would keep Osimhen on the bench.
“Osimhen has no finishing ability, he’s a bad, disorganised player. He comes to you [Galatasaray] for this money. Why didn’t he go to England or Germany? I guess they didn’t think he could play for them.”
Toroglu added: “We say Antalyaspor is a very bad team. I’m very curious whether they will stay in the league or not.
“Icardi is very good with one-touch shots. For example, I would debate whether Osimhen could make that shot, but Icardi can.
“If the balls Osimhen couldn’t score in the first half had gone to Icardi, he definitely would have scored. In terms of football quality, Icardi is far superior to Osimhen.”
