Man Utd given January GREEN LIGHT as agreement reached
Atletico Madrid have reportedly agreed to offload Manchester United target Conor Gallagher during the upcoming January transfer window.
The England international has fallen down the pecking order at the Wanda Metropolitano this season and he is open to leaving the club next month in an attempt to boost his chances of being selected for the 2026 World Cup.
Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have both been linked with a move for the former Chelsea star, although it’s understood that Man Utd are currently the frontrunners for his signature amid their pursuit of midfield reinforcements.
Ruben Amorim’s side are desperate to sign at least one new central midfielder next year and Gallagher has been earmarked as a cheaper alternative to fellow targets Carlos Baleba (Brighton & Hove Albion), Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest) and Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace).
The 25-year-old played a pivotal role under Diego Simeone during his debut season at Atletico Madrid, however he has only started four La Liga games so far this campaign and a January exit is now on the cards.
In fact, TEAMtalk report that Atletico have agreed that Gallagher will be allowed to leave the club during the winter window if they receive a suitable offer.
It’s understood that Simeone’s side would prefer a permanent sale, although a loan deal with an option to buy clause included could also be sanctioned next month.
Conor Gallagher to Man Utd?
Gallagher is one of several midfielders on Man Utd’s transfer radar, but he is not currently their first choice option.
The Red Devils are instead eager to sign one of Baleba, Anderson or Wharton, although they could turn to Gallagher in January if they are priced out of moves for the aforementioned Premier League trio.
Furthermore, Amorim may be required to sign multiple central midfielders in 2026 amid rumours that Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte and Bruno Fernandes could all depart Old Trafford.
