Manchester City and Manchester United are reportedly both firmly in the race to sign Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo during the upcoming January transfer window.

The Ghana international has scored seven goals and provided three assists in 15 Premier League appearances so far this season, and he has been widely tipped to leave Andoni Iraola’s side next month amid significant transfer interest from across the English top flight.

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are both eager to land the 25-year-old, while Sky Sports have now confirmed that Man City and Man Utd are also battling to acquire his signature in January.

It’s claimed that Man City are considered to be the frontrunners to land Semenyo in 2026, although Man Utd are regarded as “serious rivals” for the ex-Bristol City star.

Ruben Amorim’s side bolstered their attack with the signings of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko over the summer, however they remain eager to purchase additional reinforcements next year and Semenyo has been earmarked as a top target.

The Bournemouth winger will be available for a fee of €74 million (£65m) in January, due to a release clause in his current contract, and although Man Utd aren’t actively looking to add another forward, the opportunity to sign Semenyo is something they are considering.

However, they will only pursue a deal if they are still able to fund the signing of an elite central midfield next summer, as per Sky Sports.

Antoine Semenyo responds to Man Utd interest

“I don't think about it too much,” Semenyo told Sky Sports in November when asked about interest from several top Premier League clubs.

“I try to stay present as much as I can. You see the news all the time, I see it as well, I'm not oblivious, but I try to keep focused.

“I'm enjoying my football here. If I'm not scoring goals, all of that goes away. I try to stay present, do the best I can for the team, score goals and whatever happens in the future happens.”

Semenyo added: “When they [Ilya Zabarnyi, Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez and Dango Ouattara] all left [in the summer], there was a lot of interest and back and forth with the club.

“But I knew in my head that the manager's got something up his sleeve this year. How we finished off the season last year was so good and we could continue, especially with the players we've bought in as well.

“I wasn't too sure at the start but we've kicked on like a house on fire. I'm glad I committed to staying here because I'm enjoying every moment.”
