Fabrizio Romano Transfer News: Isak INJURY update, Semenyo BATTLE, Rogers January DEAL?
Fabrizio Romano has provided a fresh round of transfer updates as the January window approaches, with key developments involving Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Barcelona.
From concerns over Alexander Isak’s injury and growing interest in Antoine Semenyo, to Joshua Zirkzee’s future, Morgan Rogers’ rise at Aston Villa and Barcelona’s pursuit of young talent, several major storylines are beginning to take shape across the European market.
Alexander Isak injury concern
Liverpool are waiting on official confirmation after worrying internal assessments emerged regarding Alexander Isak’s latest injury.
“Liverpool are facing worrying news after fresh information emerged on Alexander Isak following the injury suffered against Tottenham,” Romano said.
“The feeling inside Liverpool, as reported by The Athletic, is that the Swedish striker may have suffered a serious injury, with fears that he could have broken his leg. Official confirmation is still pending, but people close to the player share the same concern.
“If confirmed, Isak could be out for several months, representing another major injury blow for Liverpool. This situation will inevitably influence Liverpool’s thinking ahead of the January transfer window, particularly in attack.
“My understanding is that Liverpool have already made exploratory calls in recent weeks to assess potential market opportunities. As I mentioned back in November, Antoine Semenyo was one of the names discussed, and in December Liverpool also began checking on other possible options.
“Injuries and recovery timelines will be crucial in shaping Liverpool’s strategy, but there is a real possibility we could see a Liverpool ‘here we go’ in January.”
Antoine Semenyo transfer battle
Several Premier League clubs are now actively competing for Antoine Semenyo ahead of the January window.
Romano added: “Antoine Semenyo’s situation is now developing quickly, with multiple top clubs actively involved.
“As previously reported, Liverpool made contact in November but did not proceed further at that time. Now, however, Manchester United and Manchester City are in a direct battle for the Bournemouth winger.
“Both United and City have held direct contacts with Semenyo’s camp between Monday and Tuesday, and again over the weekend, to understand his intentions and the feasibility of a deal.
“The £65m release clause is active but only until the 10 January, allowing Bournemouth time to source a replacement. Because of this, the player’s decision is central.
“At the moment, Tottenham are not advancing on the deal, while Liverpool are monitoring the situation closely, especially in light of the Isak injury. What Semenyo decides will be key, and this deal could have a domino effect elsewhere.”
Joshua Zirkzee and Roma talks
Roma have stepped up their pursuit of Joshua Zirkzee, with discussions accelerating behind the scenes.
“I can reveal that a meeting took place last week between Roma and the agents of Joshua Zirkzee, with further progress made in conversations this week,” Romano explained.
“Roma consider the player a top priority, and manager Gian Piero Gasperini is pushing to bring him in as early as January.
“Manchester United, however, are reluctant to give the green light at the start of the window. With several absences already - including Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo heading to AFCON, Bruno Fernandes injured, and Kobbie Mainoo unavailable - United are short of options.
“From the player’s side, Roma are making progress. Zirkzee is open to the move, attracted by the promise of regular football, a central role, and the chance to shine again in Serie A, where he previously impressed with Bologna.”
Morgan Rogers situation at Aston Villa
Morgan Rogers’ performances have attracted attention across the Premier League, but his short-term future is clear.
“After scoring twice against Manchester United at Villa Park, Morgan Rogers continues to enjoy an outstanding season under Unai Emery,” Romano said.
“Aston Villa moved smartly by extending Rogers’ contract more than a month ago, securing him on a long-term deal. Last summer, both Chelsea and Tottenham tracked the player, but Villa never opened the door to a sale.
“To be very clear, there is 0% chance of a January move. Aston Villa will not sell, there is no price, and Rogers himself is fully committed.”
Barcelona interest in Hamza
Barcelona are continuing to explore a future-focused signing involving a highly rated teenage striker.
Romano explained: “The player in question is Hamza, a 17-year-old forward from Al Ahly. On the player’s side, everything is clear - Hamza wants the move and considers Barcelona his dream destination.
“Barcelona are also keen, but the deal is currently blocked by Al Ahly’s financial demands. The Egyptian club have not yet given the green light, and this remains the main obstacle.
“Talks are ongoing, and Barcelona are actively exploring solutions, but for now the negotiation is stalled due to the asking price. We will see if an agreement can be found in the coming weeks.”
