The Ghana international was linked with multiple top clubs this summer, but he opted to snub interest from across England in favour of signing a contract extension at Bournemouth.

However, his new deal includes a release clause that is worth €74 million (£65m) during the January transfer window and €69m (£60m) next summer.

As a result, question marks over his future have dominated the football transfer world over the past few weeks and rumours regarding a January move have intensified amid a brewing battle between several elite Premier League teams.

According to Fabrizio Romano, a winter transfer of Semenyo is "expected." The transfer insider has also revealed that his clause expires on 10 January. Bournemouth insisted on an early expiration date to give themselves enough time to source a replacement.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are all eager to secure semenyo’s signature next month, however Man City have taken a giant leap forward in the race to sign him, as per talkSPORT.

Antoine Semenyo to join Man City in January?

Pep Guardiola’s squad was bolstered with the additions of seven new players over the summer, including Lyon starlet Rayan Cherki and AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, however the hierarchy at the Etihad Stadium are now keen to bring Semenyo to the club next month.

In fact, they have now opened talks with the Bournemouth star over a potential January transfer, according to a report from talkSPORT.

It’s claimed that Arsenal could pursue a deal for the 25-year-old if they offload a winger next month, although Man City have reportedly “stolen a march on their top-flight rivals by opening talks with Semenyo two weeks before the winter window opens.”

Guardiola is currently missing Oscar Bobb and Jeremy Doku through injury, while Omar Marmoush is on international duty with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations. As a result, Man City are now eager to win the race for Semenyo’s signature in January.

Romano, meanwhile, reports that Man Utd and Liverpool remain firmly in the mix to sign Semenyo as well. Ruben Amorim is a big admirer of the winger, while the Reds already made initial calls for the 25-year-old as early as November. Tottenham's interest, on the other hand, has gone somewhat cold.
