Maresca to be SACKED? Chelsea make request amid Cole Palmer concerns

Chelsea have reportedly asked Oliver Glasner to reject a contract extension at Crystal Palace amid concerns over Enzo Maresca’s long-term future at the club.
The 45-year-old guided Chelsea to Club World Cup and Europa Conference League glory during his debut season at the helm, while he also helped the Blues qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 2022-23.

However, rumours that he could be sacked have resurfaced following a four-game winless run that has seen Chelsea suffer shock defeats to both Leeds United and Atalanta.
Maresca was widely praised after Chelsea’s superb 3-0 victory over Barcelona in late November and their impressive performance in a 1-1 draw to Premier League leaders Arsenal just five days later.
But, the west London giants have now slipped to fifth place in the English top flight table and they face an uphill battle to secure automatic qualification to the Champions League last-16 following the aforementioned loss against Atalanta.
Chelsea have typically performed well in big games so far this season, however their form against lesser opponents has been troubling and Maresca’s system has been widely criticised over the past week as a result.
Enzo Maresca sack verdict
While Maresca still has over three-and-a-half years remaining on his current contract at Stamford Bridge, the Chelsea hierarchy could be set to sack him if results continue to disappoint over the next few weeks.
That is according to transfer reporter IndyKaila, who posted on X: “Chelsea have told Oliver Glasner not to sign a new contract at Crystal Palace because the club are unsure about Enzo Maresca’s long-term future.
“As exclusively revealed by us, Andoni Iraola is also on the shortlist. They will review Maresca’s position in February and decide then, but if results dramatically worsen they are not afraid to act earlier.
“The technical staff are confused about the style Maresca is trying to implement, leaving the players equally baffled. Club sources believe he will struggle to get the best out of Cole Palmer tactically.”

Palmer has scored 20 goals and provided 14 assists in 58 appearances since the appointment of his former Manchester City youth coach Maresca, although he has only found the back of the net on eight occasions in 2025, with his goalscoring prowess not reaching the heights of his debut season under Mauricio Pochettino.
Glasner, meanwhile, has established himself as one of the best managers in the world since his arrival at Crystal Palace in 2024 and he has been linked with a number of top jobs in recent months, including Manchester United as a possible replacement for Ruben Amorim.
