Enzo Fernandez drops Chelsea exit hint: Real Madrid on alert after shock decision
Chelsea fans are concerned that Enzo Fernandez may be eager to leave the club following confirmation that he has changed agents.
The Argentina international has been represented by Uriel Perez since his breakthrough onto the senior stage, and the former Uruguay forward helped facilitate his move to west London for a then British record transfer fee of €121 million in 2023.
However, Fernandez has now opted to change representation, with the Chelsea midfielder signing with a new agency called ‘The Elephant Game’, who were founded by former Paris Saint-Germain star Javier Pastore.
This news has been confirmed by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano and given Fernandez still has over six-and-a-half years remaining on his current contract at Chelsea, fans have speculated that he may be manoeuvring himself for a blockbuster 2026 transfer.
Real Madrid are long-term admirers of the Argentina superstar and it’s understood that bringing a new central midfielder to the Bernabeu is regarded as a priority for next year, with Fernandez among Los Blancos’ top targets.
Fellow Chelsea star Moises Caicedo has also switched agents this season and rumours have circulated that both players could be open to a Stamford Bridge exit.
Enzo Fernandez insists he is ‘very happy’ at Chelsea
While Fernandez has hinted that an exit or renewed contract terms could be on the cards with his decision to change agent, the Argentine recently declared his love for Chelsea during an interview with GiveMeSport.
“When Chelsea came in for me, I had no doubts. I wanted to make the move up, in sporting terms, to the Premier League,” Fernandez admitted when asked about his move to Stamford Bridge in January 2023.
“I wanted to come to Chelsea at all costs and didn’t want to let the opportunity pass me by. Everyone knows that and thank God it worked out. I’m here now and I’m very happy.”
Fernandez added: “I said to Rui [Costa, the Benfica president], ‘Please let me fulfil my dream of playing in the Premier League for a big club like Chelsea’, and luckily he understood. It was a history-making transfer. I’m grateful to him for accepting the offer.
“If I hadn’t spoken to him, I don’t think the move would’ve happened. The negotiation phase was very long and tough. My agent and Benfica knew how much Chelsea wanted me and they did everything possible to sign me.
“But I still had to speak to the Benfica president at the last minute to ask him to let me come to Chelsea. He wanted me to stay for another six months because he said that many more offers would come in, but you never know in football. I wanted to move to the Premier League and join Chelsea, so I’m thrilled with my decision.”
