Tottenham blow Liverpool out of the water with desperate Semenyo bid
Tottenham increasingly look like the most likely team to launch a blockbuster January bid for Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo, who is also fielding interest from Liverpool.
Speculation surrounding the Ghana international's future is ramping up following the revelation that the new contract he signed at Bournemouth in the summer contains a €74 million January release clause.
This clause must be triggered in the early stages of the window to give the Cherries ample time to bring in an adequate replacement, but it is nevertheless seen as an opportunity.
If Semenyo were to stay at Bournemouth beyond January, he could be on the move in the summer for a cheaper fee, but there is a growing sense that some clubs will be desperate enough to attempt to swoop in January.
Among these clubs are Tottenham and Liverpool, who have to date endured hugely disappointing seasons and could be tempted to bring in more fresh faces in the winter to rectify the situation.
Spurs ramp up Semenyo interest
According to Sky Sports, it is Spurs, in particular, who are now ramping up their interest in Semenyo. The North London giants are desperate to add a left winger and want to 'get ahead of the competition.'
Ghana did not qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, which means that Semenyo would be an immediate reinforcement, making him even more attractive to suitors.
It is claimed that Tottenham are now 'more ready' to pay big money for the 25-year-old than they were in the summer, when Bournemouth were only entertaining offers of around €80m.
While it is not set in stone yet that Spurs will be able to beat off competition from Liverpool and potentially elsewhere - Man City also like the player - they are really ramping up their interest in Semenyo ahead of January.
