Shock double Chelsea raid in the works for January
Struggling Serie A side Fiorentina are plotting an ambitious January transfer window and are targeting Chelsea duo Axel Disasi and Josh Acheampong, according to Italian media.
To say that the 2025/26 season has not gone to plan for Fiorentina would be an understatement. Ahead of the new campaign, La Viola brought in former Serie A winner Stefano Pioli as head coach as they looked to kick on after a very good sixth-place finish in 2024/25.
However, the Pioli appointment proved to be an unmitigated disaster. Although the 60-year-old boasted a 100 per cent record in the Conference League (two wins in qualifying, two in the competition proper), he was sacked after not winning any of his first 10 Serie A games.
Fiorentina were left languishing in the relegation zone after four draws and six defeats, and they are still rock bottom after a 2-2 draw with fellow strugglers Genoa before the international break.
A season that was supposed to be a fight for European qualification has now turned into a desperate scramble for survival. Planning for the January window is in full swing, and some ambitious names are being targeted to get Fiorentina out of the doldrums.
Fiorentina want Chelsea duo
According to Tuttmercatoweb, La Viola are targeting several Premier League players, including two from Chelsea. Adding defensive solidity is a priority, and as such, Axel Disasi and Josh Acheampong are on the club's shortlist.
Disasi certainly seems like an attainable target. Although the 'Bomb Squad' member has been pardoned by Enzo Maresca and reintegrated into the first team, the expectation remains that he will leave Chelsea in January.
Securing Acheampong could be significantly more difficult. The 19-year-old is rated incredibly highly by Maresca and the entire Chelsea organisation, and there is little to suggest that they would be willing to sanction even just a loan in the winter.
To be sure, the teenager is not getting the minutes he perhaps wants, but Chelsea will be wary of being left short of defensive options, especially after their recent injury crisis.
The fact that Acheampong can be used centrally and at full-back makes him very attractive to Fiorentina, but it would be quite a shock if he were to depart the Blues in January.
