'Why Manchester?!': Mbeumo family admit doubts over Man Utd transfer

Details have been revealed over Bryan Mbeumo’s decision to join Manchester United this summer, with the former Brentford man remaining adamant over the move despite doubts with the transfer.
United paid €75 million for Mbeumo in late July after weeks of negotiation with Brentford and a number of failed bids which led to fears that the 26-year-old would not get his dream move.

Mbeumo had rejected interest from the likes of Newcastle and Tottenham in order to sign for United, which led to the Premier League giants eventually succumbing to Brentford’s asking price.
Speaking to The Athletic, Mbeumo’s sister, Maeva Gouge, asked her brother about the transfer after hearing the speculation, to which the Cameroonian international insisted he would move to Old Trafford even with all the delays.
“Why Manchester?” Maeva is quoted as asking Mbeumo. “Their league position isn’t very good!”, with her brother replying: “It’s a club that can bounce back. Their game plan is interesting, I’m committed. I’m a man of my word, for now I’m going there.”
After two failed bids, Maeva told Mbeumo: “You’re not going to sign, only for her brother to reply: “It’s going to happen.”
“He really wanted it, in his mind, it was Manchester,” Maeva said.
Pressure higher at Man Utd admits Mbeumo’s sister
Mbeumo has yet to reach the heights that saw him net 20 goals for Brentford last season, having scored just once in his seven appearances for United so far.
Only three players have played more minutes than Mbeumo in the Premier League under Ruben Amorim this season and the forward is expected to feature once again against Liverpool this weekend.
Mbeumo will be encouraged after grabbing his first assist for United in their last game against Sunderland as well as scoring for Cameroon during the international break and his sister admitted ‘the pressure’ is significantly higher at Old Trafford.
“It’s true it’s another world,” Mbeumo’s sister said of Manchester United. “You can feel the pressure is different, the expectations are a little higher. You can’t afford to make mistakes. You have to give it your all.”
