Man Utd prepare 'market-shaking offer' for Chelsea fan favourite
Manchester United are preparing a “market-shaking offer” worth €60 million for former Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, according to reports in Spain.
The Atletico Madrid star has been identified as a key target by the Old Trafford hierarchy and Ruben Amorim’s side are expected to intensify their pursuit of his signature over the coming months.
Gallagher, who was a fan favourite during his time at Chelsea, enjoyed a successful first season at Atletico Madrid, however he has only started four matches in all competitions so far this term and an exit appears to be on the cards in 2026.
Diego Simeone still views the 25-year-old as an important player at the Wanda Metropolitano, however Spanish publication Fichajes claim that Man Utd are ready to submit an offer of €60m to acquire his signature next year.
It’s understood that Man Utd are likely to make a move during the January transfer window, with Gallagher said to be open to a return to England as he looks to work his way back into the national team set-up ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Conor Gallagher to join Man Utd?
Gallagher has been persistently linked with a move to Man Utd in 2025 and FootballTransfers understands that Amorim was eager to bring the Atletico Madrid star to the club this summer in place of Kobbie Mainoo.
The Red Devils academy graduate has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford over the past few months and we have been informed that Amorim was open to a departure if Gallagher was signed as his replacement.
However, a deal failed to materialise and Mainoo remains at Old Trafford, while Gallagher is still an Atletico Madrid player.
In addition to the ex-Chelsea star, Man Utd are also monitoring the likes of Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, Jobe Bellingham, Angelo Stiller, Andrey Santos and Elliot Anderson amid their pursuit of a new central midfielder.
