Manchester United have accepted Napoli's request to make Rasmus Hojlund's loan permanent in January, according to a report.

The Denmark international has found a new lease on life after being forced out of Old Trafford in the summer following the arrival of Benjamin Sesko. Although Hojlund was keen to stay and fight for his place, he did not want to waste a year on the bench.

He joined Napoli on an initial loan deal and has been a man reborn. The 22-year-old scored four goals in his first six outings and also found the back of the net three times for his country during the recent international break.

Hojlund has missed Napoli's recent games due to a muscle injury, but head coach Antonio Conte has been delighted with the young striker's impact in the absence of his personal favourite Romelu Lukaku.

Napoli's deal to sign Hojlund included a €6 million loan fee and an easy-to-trigger obligation to make his stay permanent for €44 million. All they have to do is qualify for the Champions League, with the Dane playing a certain number of games.

Napoli to sign Hojlund in January

Despite this, The Mirror claims that the Serie A giants already want to sign Hojlund permanently in January. Napoli are essentially trying to bring their purchase obligation forward to put the matter to bed.

Man Utd, naturally, are delighted with this and have given the green light to Napoli's plan, the report states. The additional €44m would be a welcome boost for the Red Devils in their bid to sign a midfielder in January.

It is asserted that talks to restructure Hojlund's deal are already in full swing, given that a January move was not part of the original arrangement. Reaching an agreement is not expected to be an issue, as the financial terms will remain the same.

Man Utd are chomping at the bit to get this deal over the line after last summer's 'debacle' involving Jadon Sancho and his move to Chelsea. The Blues had an obligation to make his stay permanent, but ended up exercising a clause to send him back to Old Trafford for a €6m penalty fee.
