Bruno Fernandes makes €120m decision
Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has made an important decision that will resonate around Old Trafford for the next 18 months.
Portugal international star Bruno has been a shining light during one of the most difficult periods in the history of the illustrious side yet his future at United has been put under question.
The 31-year-old has persistently been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, with rumours once again surfacing in recent days.
It has been claimed that Man Utd are planning without Bruno, having agreed a €120 million transfer fee that will see him leave for Saudi Arabia next summer. For his part, the playmaker, who has 18 months left on his contract at Old Trafford, would receive a huge pay rise.
Bruno to sacrifice €20m to stay at Man Utd
These claims have been quashed by BBC Sport, which states that Fernandes has “no interest” in making the move to the Pro League.
The report states: “Sources close to the United skipper have completely rejected recent suggestions he is ready to quit Old Trafford after the World Cup next summer and accept a Saudi offer.”
Such a move comes at a significant personal cost.
Saudi’s offer of a contract worth an estimated €42m per year – twice what he earns at Old Trafford – that even if Bruno decides to move there on the same payment terms when his current United deal is up in 2027, he will be €21m worse off.
Saudi’s ambitious 2026
Fernandes is not the only world star that Saudi are doing their best to attract in 2026.
Under the instruction of Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has emerged as a major target. He would be paid around €600,000 per week.
The real dream of the Pro League, though, is to sign Real Madrid attacker Vinicius Junior, who finds himself in the midst of a contract dispute with the Spanish side.
Should this continue, Los Blancos will seek to sell him for around €250 million and move for Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, according to reports in Spain.
