Chelsea rocked as Arsenal join race to sign €100m striker
Arsenal have reportedly joined Chelsea in the race to sign FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa next summer.
The Spain international was on the verge of moving to Stamford Bridge last year, but the deal collapsed at the last minute and he eventually completed a transfer from Atletico Madrid to Porto for €32 million instead.
Aghehowa has scored 35 goals in 55 games since his arrival at Porto, and his form for Francesco Farioli’s side has attracted the attention of numerous clubs across European football.
Several teams in the Premier League are among those monitoring the Spaniard’s development and CaughtOffside have revealed that Arsenal, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur are all keeping close tabs on the 21-year-old.
It’s understood that Spurs are the leading contenders for Aghehowa’s signature, as they look to bring another new striker to the club, although Arsenal have been tipped to chase a deal amid Gabriel Jesus’ uncertain future at the Emirates Stadium.
Viktor Gyokeres has struggled since his arrival at Mikel Arteta’s side from Sporting CP and Arsenal scouts have reportedly been attracted to Aghehowa’s recent form.
The Spain star’s current contract at Porto, which runs until 2029, includes a release clause worth €100m, although early reports suggest that he could be available for a slightly cheaper fee next year.
Chelsea eye Samu Aghehowa
In addition to the aforementioned clubs, Chelsea have also been linked with a move for Aghehowa after rekindling their interest in the Porto star ahead of 2026.
Joao Pedro has failed to score in his last eight matches for the Blues, while Marc Guiu and Liam Delap are both yet to net their first Premier League goal for the west London outfit.
However, Chelsea have already announced that Strasbourg centre forward Emanuel Emegha will join the club next summer, while they have also been tipped to pursue a move for his team-mate Joaquin Panichelli.
