Manchester City are currently ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign Leicester City wonderkid Jeremy Monga, according to reports.

The 16-year-old, who is the third-youngest player in Premier League history, has established himself as a regular first-team player at the King Power Stadium in 2025 and he has been widely tipped to leave the club for pastures new next year.

Several elite clubs have been heavily linked with a move for Monga since his breakthrough into the Leicester senior side and Real Madrid have even been sensationally touted as potential suitors amid their pursuit of a long-term replacement for Vinicius Junior.

However, Man City are currently the frontrunners to sign the England U19 international, as per TBR Football.

Pep Guardiola’s side were close to landing Monga over the summer, but he ultimately opted to snub a move to the Etihad Stadium in favour of signing scholarship terms at Leicester.

Despite this, Man City have continued to track the teenager’s development and they are leading the race to sign him in 2026. The eight-time Premier League champions are preparing a fresh approach for Monga, and Leicester will be powerless to a departure as he isn’t eligible to sign a professional contract at the club until he turns 17 years old next June.

Chelsea eye Jeremy Monga deal

In addition to Man City, Monga is also being closely monitored by fellow Premier League clubs Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Chelsea, in particular, are tracking his progress as they continue their bid to scoop up the best young talents in world football.

The Blues have signed a total of 32 teenagers since the arrival of Clearlake Capital as their new owners in 2022 and they are eager to add Monga to their ranks in response to losing Rio Ngumoha to Liverpool last summer.
