Arsenal are closing in on a contract extension for Jurrien Timber, who has been hailed as the best full-back in England by Gary Neville.

The Netherlands international has come on leaps and bounds since recovering from the ACL injury that robbed him of his first season at Arsenal in 2023/24. Timber has been spectacular for the Gunners over the past year, with his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) skyrocketing to €66.9 million.

The 24-year-old is a vital cog in Mikel Arteta's well-oiled machine, and as such, he is set to be rewarded with a new contract. His current terms expire in 2028.

Arsenal have handed many of their key stars improved deals in recent months, with Timber expected to be the latest player to commit his long-term future to the North London giants.

Although an agreement has not yet been reached, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano recently reported that Arsenal are not expecting any hiccups as Timber is 'keen on signing.' It is just a matter of ironing out the final details.

Neville: Timber the best full-back in the Premier League

Timber's assured performances for Arsenal have earned him lavish praise, and there are few more qualified to talk about elite right-backs than Manchester United legend Gary Neville.

Speaking on The Overlap, the former England full-back waxed lyrical about the Dutchman, describing him as the best full-back in the Premier League and on par with Real Madrid superstar Dani Carvajal, his personal favourite.

“When I was watching Arsenal vs Atletico, I was watching [Myles] Lewis-Skelly, obviously Timber played, you’ve got Ben White and [Riccardo] Calafiori, I thought all of Arsenal’s full-backs are better than Liverpool’s, all four of them, that’s a big problem for Liverpool.

"Timber is the best full-back in the league at the moment. I think Timber is almost, in my mind, I would class as being - do you know the guy that plays for Real Madrid? Carvajal - for me, he’s the best.

"And I think Timber’s the nearest to him at the moment. I see it in terms of being able to do that bit and do that bit, do the forward bit well enough, but definitely cuts everything off down his side.”
