Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton has sent an important transfer message as he continues to be courted by a string of major clubs, headlined by Manchester United.

Man Utd are one of several teams who have taken an interest in the 21-year-old in recent months, with the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Arsenal all following him.

Wharton is, therefore, set to have his pick of leading teams next summer - assuming that Palace’s transfer demands are met.

The former Blackburn star, who moved to the London club for €21 million in January 2023, has outlined what he wants from any future team.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he was asked about his ambitions, and replied: “Champions League, if you can play in it, you want to.

“I want to play as many games as I can in the Premier League and try reach the highest level possible. There is a World Cup in the summer, and everyone wants to play in it.”

Palace have never played at such a heady level, and though going well under Oliver Glasner, sit only eighth in the Premier League. Would that be enough to satisfy Wharton?

Apparently not as he said: “That's it. Being as successful as possible, winning trophies and games.

“Just keep going until you can't anymore.”

Romano on Wharton to Man Utd rumours?

Fabrizio Romano has given the latest on Wharton’s transfer situation, unsurprisingly saying there will be no January move for the midfielder.

“For January, Palace have no intention to negotiate. They want Wharton to stay at the club, to be a really important part of the story,” he told his YouTube channel.

“Then, 2026 summer transfer window, maybe after the World Cup - we will see if Wharton will be there or not, he has chances - Palace will assess the situation with the player, also based on proposals.

“We have many links with Man Utd. I can confirm that Man Utd appreciate the player, but it's not only Man Utd. Trust me, it's several clubs appreciating this boy. He is really appreciated, he is considered one of the best talents in his position in England.”

How much will he cost?

Wharton has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €55.6 million, but it’s unclear what fee Crystal Palace will demand for one of their star player.

Romano explained: “At the moment, nothing has been decided in terms of bid, numbers. If you see 30, 40, 50 million - nothing at this stage. Palace are very focused on this season with the player, and the player is very focused on the season with Palace. At the moment, the situation is very quiet.”

While no action is expected imminently, Man Utd will clearly have to do all they can to reach the Champions League next season in order to match Wharton’s ambition – and that means securing a top-four finish in the Premier League.
