Gyokeres endured a drawn out saga involving months of negotiations with Sporting, with the Swedish international reportedly refusing to play for the club again after they upped their asking price and nearly jeopardised his move to Arsenal.

The Gunners eventually paid €65 million for Gyokeres and he has repaid them with three goals in his first four Premier League games, although the 27-year-old believes there is more to come with his form.

“I think it’s quite stressful when you don’t know what’s going to happen and you live in that uncertainty where you’re just hanging around and waiting for something to happen,” Gyokeres told Sky Sports.

“It was a weird moment that felt like it took forever but when it all finished it was a great feeling. If felt like my life was on hold because it’s your career and such a big step.”

Speaking about his start at Arsenal, Gyokeres added: "Some games have been tougher - where I couldn't perform how I wanted. That's maybe depending on how the game looked.

“But I had games where I felt very good so it's been up and down but overall, I've managed to score a few goals and we won most of the games. So it's been quite a good start, but it could be better."

Gyokeres brushes off doubters with hot start to Arsenal career

Gyokeres has become the joint-second-highest scorer in the Premier League in the early stage of the season after boasting a prolific record in Portugal with Sporting.

Arsenal had been desperate to add a number nine to Mikel Arteta’s squad this summer and eventually picked Gyokeres over Benjamin Sesko, who has yet to open his account for his new club Manchester United.

Gyokeres didn’t become a regular performer for his club until his move to Coventry at the age of 23 and there had been question marks over whether he would be able to replicate his form at a higher level.

"You have to do your own thing, you have to adapt to where you're playing," Gyokeres said. "You have to believe in yourself and keep going, no matter what happens - whether that's on the pitch or outside.

"I don't think you have to take in what everyone around you says. You don't have to listen to everything you hear."
