REVEALED: Garnacho's relationship with influencer helped end Man Utd career
Alejandro Garnacho’s off-field activities had a role to play in his Manchester United exit, with certain figures at the club unhappy about the Argentine’s relationship with a prominent influencer.
Garnacho left Man Utd for Chelsea this summer in a deal worth €46 million after a mixed period at Old Trafford.
Though a favourite of certain sections of the fanbase, his behaviour away from the field left others questioning his attitude.
This became increasingly prominent under head coach Ruben Amorim, who he had a difficult relationship with. His brother, for instance, attacked the Man Utd manager on social media after the Europa League final while the player himself controversially wore a Marcus Rashford Aston Villa shirt while on holiday in Ibiza in what was interpreted as a further broadside on the Portuguese.
But even under the previous regime, Garnacho’s behaviour left much to be desired.
Garnacho’s iShowSpeed FA Cup invite leaves Man Utd furious
Indeed, his decision to invite influencer iShowSpeed to Manchester United’s celebrations of their 2023 FA Cup triumph did not sit easily with the hierarchy at the club.
The Daily Mail says that Garnacho’s decision “raised eyebrows” at Old Trafford, while one former Red Devil star, who commented anonymously, said: “In our day, the dressing room would have sorted him out.”
Furthermore, it is claimed that team-mates had “withering private verdicts” about the winger’s “petulance” and that staff were uneasy in the presence of the 21-year-old.
The Sun reports that Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Harry Maguire all confronted Garnacho about a selfish attitude.
As well as a lack of focus on the team, it is claimed the Argentina international clashed with Amorim and suffered temper tantrums during training.
All this added up to make Garnacho a toxic influence who many at Man Utd were glad to see the back of this summer.
