Glasner responds to Man Utd links as 'knackered' Amorim faces axe
Crystal Palace head coach Oliver Glasner has broken his silence on the speculation linking him with the Manchester United job.
The Eagles are soaring under the Austrian tactician, boasting the only invincible record in the Premier League and currently sitting third in the table. On Saturday, Crystal Palace dominated reigning champions Liverpool for 45 minutes and dramatically won the game in stoppage time.
Given Glasner's exploits - winning two trophies and masterminding the Selhurst Park outfit's joint-longest unbeaten streak (18 games) - it is unsurprising that he is attracting plenty of attention.
In recent weeks, the 51-year-old has been increasingly associated with Man Utd, where Ruben Amorim is under growing pressure. The weekend's listless 3-1 defeat to Brentford has put the Portuguese's future under the microscope again.
TEAMtalk quotes a Man Utd source describing Amorim as 'knackered' and aware that his coaching is 'not working.' The report adds that contingency plans for a replacement are being put in place.
Glasner responds to Man Utd links
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, meanwhile, has acknowledged that Amorim is 'not 100 per cent safe,' but he insists that Amorim does not face the sack just yet. Man Utd are reluctant to part with the 40-year-old before he completes a year in the job due to the hefty cost they would incur.
As for Glasner, Romano states that he is not thinking about leaving Crystal Palace while they are flying high. However, his contract is up at the end of the season, and the Austrian made no secret of his frustration with the club's transfer policy and broken promises over the summer.
Romano therefore comes to the conclusion that the coach could be tempted 'if top clubs arrive in near future.' Glasner himself has now also addressed his future while speaking to Kicker.
“I follow all the rumours - and that’s all there is - neutrally and completely relaxed, fully focused on the daily work with my players and coaches, and trying to enjoy it as much as possible,” Glasner said.
On the face of it, this is a fairly predictable answer. But it is quite telling when viewed in the context of the question that was asked. Glasner wasn't merely quizzed about Man Utd, he was also told to 'reveal when you and Palace plan to discuss your future again.'
He completely evaded that part of the query, and this will be a worry to Palace fans.
