Manchester United outcast Tyrell Malacia turned down a move to Eyupspor on Turkish Deadline Day on Friday to stay at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman had been widely expected to leave the Red Devils this summer, having spent the second half of last season on loan at PSV after Ruben Amorim bluntly admitted that the left-back was not suited to his system.

However, the transfer window came and went, and concrete interest in Malacia was few and far between. Only two clubs actively pursued a deal for the 26-year-old, while there were tentative enquiries from a few more.

Elche looked poised to strike a deal for Malacia when the transfer window was still open in Europe's top-five leagues. The promoted LaLiga outfit were closing in on a loan for the former Netherlands international, but the transfer collapsed when all parties involved failed to agree on whether a permanent element should be attached to the deal.

Malacia's options dwindled further when the main European window closed, but Turkish side Eyupspor were ready to come to his rescue before the Super Lig window shut on Friday.

Malacia rejects move to Turkey

Earlier this week, it was reported that Malacia was all but set to follow teammate Andre Onana to Turkey, with the Cameroon international having become one of the Super Lig's best-paid players after joining Trabzonspor on loan.

Man Utd and Eyupspor reached an agreement over a loan deal that would have seen Malacia spend the season in the European part of Istanbul, but the final decision was up to the player.

Journalist Resat Can Ozbudak now reports that Malacia surprisingly rejected the move despite the fact that a club representative personally jetted into Manchester to convince the player to join.

Malacia apparently has no interest in playing in the Super Lig and now looks poised to stay at Old Trafford until at least January unless a convincing offer from a league where the window is still open - like Saudi Arabia - comes in.

Man Utd have included Malacia in their Premier League squad for the season, but it seems unlikely that he will play a major role unless the side is ravaged by an injury crisis.
