Celtic face manager Brendan Rodgers walking out of the club in the near future, according to a sensational report that has detailed just how tense the situation is in the East End of Glasgow.

Although leading the Premiership, the Hoops’ early exit from the Champions League has left the manager furious about the club’s handling of the transfer window.

In turn, this has led to the collapse of contract talks between Rodgers and the club, with the Northern Irishman looking increasingly likely to depart at the end of the season, when his current deal expires, according to Football Insider.

Why Rodgers is ready to walk out on Celtic

Celtic supporters are pushing for wholesale changes in the boardroom of the club, which is set to prompt a protest from fans during Sunday’s Premiership clash against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park. Fans are set to enter the stadium after 12 minutes in frustration at the manner of the board’s handling of transfers this summer.

Rodgers shares those annoyances and has been left particularly angry that key figure Kyogo Furuhashi, who was sold to Rennes in January, has not been replaced.

Indeed, Celtic recouped €23 million from direct sales this summer – and also landed a fat sell-on bonus from Jeremie Frimpong’s move from Bayer Leverkusen to Celtic – but were only prepared to spend €15m in signings.

On top of this, the timing of the deals has angered both the supporters and the management. Celtic’s two most expensive arrivals, Sebastian Tounekti and Michel-Ange Balikwisha were both added to Rodgers’ ranks after the club had already been eliminated from Europe.

Already, the former Liverpool and Leicester City boss has been linked with the Nottingham Forest job in the Premier League, and while that ultimately went to Ange Postecoglou, a man many Celtic fans pined to have back at Parkhead, Rodgers is likely to be continually associated with such roles.
