Amorim's 'NONSENSE' Man Utd decision blasted ahead of Man City derby
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has come under fire for his 'nonsense' decision to stick with Altay Bayindir over new signing Senne Lammens for the clash against Manchester City.
The Red Devils ostensibly signed a new No.1 on Deadline Day when they brought in Royal Antwerp shot-stopper Lammens in a €21 million deal after Amorim had lost faith in Andre Onana.
The Cameroon international has since been offloaded to Turkey, joining Trabzonspor on a season-long loan that has seen him become one of the best-paid players in the Super Lig.
Bayindir started the season in goal in Onana's stead, but he, too, failed to impress. Many therefore expected that Lammens would immediately start after the international break.
However, Amorim announced on Friday that the Belgian would not be thrown into the deep end against Man City on Sunday and that he would stick with Bayindir for the time being.
Amorim decision 'nonsense'
Amorim's decision to protect Lammens from the heightened pressure of a Manchester derby has been met with bewilderment by ex-Netherlands international Johan Boskamp.
The former player and manager, who coached several Belgian clubs as well as Stoke City, among a host of others, described the idea of shielding Lammens from scrutiny as 'nonsense' considering that he has joined one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“I would have started him straight away, because that Turkish goalkeeper is playing like a bun,” Boskamp told Belgian outlet HBVL before decrying Amorim's reasoning: “Nonsense! We’re talking about Manchester United here.
“One of the most media-covered clubs in the world. Whoever they play, there’s always going to be pressure. Every little mistake is magnified. That’s just part of being at that club. If you can’t handle that, you shouldn’t sign with them.”
