Ruben Amorim CONFIRMS Man Utd decision with bold message
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has confirmed that Altay Bayindir will start against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
Bayindir, 27, played a back-up role to Andre Onana last season, but he has started in each of Man Utd’s opening three Premier League fixtures so far this term, despite his underwhelming form.
The Turkish goalkeeper has shown an immense weakness when defending corners and Man Utd completed the signing of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on Transfer Deadline Day in order to demote him back to second-choice.
However, Amorim has revealed that Bayindir will keep his place versus Pep Guardiola’s side.
When asked if Bayindir will be selected during his pre-match press conference, Amorim replied: “Yeah. It is the same thing I do with different positions but Altay is going to continue.
“It is a different league, different country, different training, different ball [for Lammens]. So they will fight for the position.”
Amorim continued: “Andre Onana did a very good season in Inter, the quality is there but in the club sometimes things is getting harder and harder. In this club the pressure is so hard in every detail [so] sometimes you need a change. I believe in Altay, he is ready to play.”
Ruben Amorim on Senne Lammens
Although Bayindir is set to be selected against Man City on Sunday, Amorim has effectively revealed that Lammens will replace the Turkish goalkeeper once he settles in Manchester.
“I'm pleased, he's [Lammens] a goalkeeper with a lot of potential. I know that we are in the moment that the goalkeeper needs to be really strong and have a lot of experience.
"But we are also in the moment that we have to look at the present, but also with a focus on the future. So it's a little bit both. A guy with a great potential, that is one more option to play, and we'll be ready.”
Amorim added: “He has the potential to be our goalkeeper for a lot of years.”
