Man Utd make transfer U-TURN as Amorim targets bold January deal
Manchester United have reportedly decided to pursue a move for Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume during the upcoming January transfer window.
The 23-year-old was heavily linked with an Old Trafford switch over the summer, however the Red Devils eventually opted against finalising a deal for the Frenchman.
Despite this, Spanish publication Fichajes claim that Man Utd have now decided to pursue Agoume’s signature in January, with Ruben Amorim eager to bolster the midfield options at his disposal following the club’s failure to sign a replacement for Christian Eriksen this summer.
The Red Devils boss is unsatisfied with his current roster of central midfielders, and the Man Utd hierarchy have reportedly pinpointed Agoume as a key mid-season target amid his impressive form at Sevilla.
The 13-time Premier League champions have been told that Agoume will cost €30 million in January, although they could face unwanted competition in the race to sign him.
Arsenal were also interested in signing Agoume before the additions of Christian Norgaard and Martin Zubimendi, as exclusively revealed by FootballTransfers, while Fichajes state that Brighton & Hove Albion are ready to battle with Man Utd for his signature in 2026.
Man Utd target new midfielder in 2026
In addition to Agoume, Man Utd have also been linked with pursuing January deals for Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Ruben Neves.
The former is regarded as a top target amid his ascent to stardom at Nottingham Forest, although Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are unlikely to sanction a sale mid-season unless they receive an extremely attractive offer.
Meanwhile, Man Utd retain immense interest in Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba. The Cameroon international was open to an Old Trafford transfer this summer, however a deal failed to materialise due to his price tag of over €115m (£100m).
Despite this, the Red Devils have been tipped to restart negotiations with Brighton in 2026 in a bid to finally agree a deal to sign the 21-year-old.
