Arsenal plot blockbuster move for Liverpool superstar

Arsenal are reportedly keeping close tabs on Rio Ngumoha’s situation at Liverpool as they consider a potential move for the England winger next year.

Ngumoha, 18, enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Anfield last season and he was expected to play a prominent role under Andoni Iraola this term following the departure of club legend Mohamed Salah.

However, the former Chelsea academy starlet has only played 37 minutes in Liverpool’s last three Premier League matches and although he started in their Champions League win over Atletico Madrid last week, he doesn’t appear to be in Iraola’s favoured XI.

Cody Gakpo has started the new campaign in fine form, following significant speculation suggesting that he could depart the club over the summer, while the arrival of Bradley Barcola for €125 million from Paris Saint-Germain has also threatened Ngumoha’s place in the pecking order.

Victor Munoz has impressed too, after joining from Osasuna, and although Liverpool failed to sign an out-and-out right winger to replace Salah, despite strong interest in Yankuba Minteh, it appears as though Ngumoha may struggle to work his way into Iraola’s preferred starting team.

As a result, Arsenal are now closely watching developments with “growing interest,” according to a report from transfer journalist Alan Nixon.

It’s claimed that Arsenal will look to seriously pursue a deal next year if Ngumoha is unable to establish himself as Liverpool’s first-choice left winger over the coming months, with the Gunners eager to strengthen their attacking roster in 2027.

Arsenal attempted to sign both Vinicius Junior and Morgan Rogers over the summer, but they were left empty-handed in their pursuit of a superstar left winger and were forced to simply add Christos Tzolis to their first-team squad.

Following the sales of Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli, Tzolis is the only out-and-out left winger in Mikel Arteta’s squad, although he will face competition from the versatile Eberechi Eze for a starting berth throughout the campaign.

However, Arsenal have limited depth in the left flank and it’s therefore perhaps no surprise that Ngumoha is being closely tracked ahead of a potential approach in 2027.
