Man Utd target opens door to blockbuster transfer
Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries has confirmed that he would like to play in the Premier League if the opportunity arises.
The Netherlands international has been heavily linked with a move to the English top flight for several years and Manchester United have been touted as a possible destination for a plethora of consecutive transfer windows.
Erik ten Hag was interested in signing Dumfries during his time as the head coach at Old Trafford and reports suggest that Ruben Amorim may also be open to a transfer due to the 29-year-old’s ability as a right wing-back.
Dumfries notched 17 goal contributions in 47 games for Inter last season and although Man Utd opted against submitting a concrete offer during the 2025 summer transfer window, he remains a credible long-term target.
Furthermore, the Dutchman has now opened the door to a potential Old Trafford switch.
Denzel Dumfries open to joining Man Utd
While on international duty with the Netherlands, Dumfries told reporters (via Metro): “The Premier League is a fantastic competition. I’m happy at Inter, but I think I could also do very well in England.
“If there were a professional opportunity, I would certainly be interested.
“The Premier League is known for its intensity, while Serie A is known for its tactical ability. These are two different approaches to football. The Champions League, however, always offers exciting clashes.”
A €25 million release clause was active in Dumfries’ contract until the end of July, however this has now expired and Man Utd will likely therefore be required to submit an offer in the region of his €38.6m Estimated Transfer Value (ETV).
Dumfries has three years remaining on his current deal at Inter and his willingness to move to England suggests that Man Utd could have a chance of securing a transfer next summer.
