Cesc Fabregas in ambitious transfer swoop for €43m Man Utd star
Cesc Fabregas' ambitious Como are the latest Serie A side to take a keen interest in Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee, according to local media.
The Dutchman has struggled to make his mark at Old Trafford since his €42.5 million move in the summer of 2024. Zirkzee is nothing more than a squad player at this point, and this is once again casting doubt on his future at Man Utd.
The 24-year-old was already being linked with an exit in the previous January window, although summer speculation was pretty muted as Man Utd opted to push Rasmus Hojlund out instead.
According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Juventus were 'insisting like crazy' on a deal in January, while the likes of Napoli, Inter and AC Milan have also shown a concrete interest in Zirkzee over the past 12 months.
The Italian reporter added that Zirkzee could become one to watch in 2026 if his game time doesn't increase, and it seems that Serie A clubs are again positioning themselves to potentially sign the former Bologna star.
Como join Zirkzee race
The latest side to show an interest in Zirkzee are Como, according to local outlet Corriere Como. The ambitious Serie A side, spearheaded by Cesc Fabregas, have been splashing the cash in recent windows to build a competitive top-flight team after their promotion last year.
Zirkzee has been pinpointed as a player who would not only help the club on the pitch but also off it. Signing the Dutchman would be a massive statement of intent and drive further growth of the club.
Como are primarily focused on signing youth players with high potential. However, unlike other clubs that take this approach, the Lombard outfit are not doing this to flip these players for a profit.
Thanks to their wealthy backers, they are not in need of funds and instead want these young players to grow and develop together, forming a cohesive unit that plays attractive football and turns the club into a project that appeals to fans around the world.
The city of Como is a tourism hotspot, and president Mirwan Suwarso previously stated that he wants to tap into this and turn the club into an attraction for outsiders as well as locals.
The report posits that a January move for Zirkzee could be possible, although Man Utd's demands are as yet unknown. Como are currently 8th in Serie A and are 'dreaming of the Champions League.' Signing the Red Devils striker would be confirmation of this ambition.
