Man City to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma as Romano says 'here we go'
Manchester City are edging closer to finalising the blockbuster signing of Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The Italy international has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League throughout the summer transfer window and he is now on the verge of joining Man City.
Chelsea and Manchester United were also touted as potential suitors for Donnarumma this summer, however Man City quickly emerged as the frontrunners for his signature and a deal is now expected to be finalised before the end of Transfer Deadline Day.
Football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Donnarumma will join Man City if they are able to offload Ederson to Fenerbahce and a full agreement has now been reached for the Brazilian to depart the club after a successful eight-year stint.
“BREAKING: Ederson to Fenerbahce, here we go! Verbal agreement in place for Brazilian GK to join Fener,” Romano posted on X.
“Fee around €13/14m to Man City for Ederson and as also personal terms are agreed with his agent Jorge Mendes and director Devin Ozek. Up next: Donnarumma and City.”
As a result, Donnarumma is set to become Man City’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, James Trafford, Sverre Nypan and Marcus Bettinelli.
Gianluigi Donnarumma to join Man City
Donnarumma enjoyed an impressive 2024-25 campaign at PSG, playing a pivotal role en route to their first ever Champions League triumph, but he has been deemed surplus to requirements by Luis Enrique following the signing of Lucas Chevalier from Lille.
The Italy superstar is expected to compete with the aforementioned Trafford for a starting berth at the Etihad Stadium once his move to Pep Guardiola’s side is formally completed.
Stefan Ortega also remains at the club, however he could potentially leave before the end of Transfer Deadline Day, while he will be Man City’s third-choice goalkeeper if he is unable to secure an exit.
