Liverpool’s busy Deadline Day will see them complete numerous big moves, the highlight of which is set to be Alexander Isak’s arrival from Newcastle United.

Fabrizio Romano has already dropped his famous ‘Here we go’ for the €150 million deal, but in order to finance that spectacular move, Liverpool are having to move players on.

It’s something that sporting director Richard Hughes has been an expert at this summer. Although the Reds’ spending is likely to top €500 million by the time they sign Isak and Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, the Anfield side will also have recouped more than half that back.

One deal that is set to be rushed through in the hours before the transfer deadline has now been confirmed: Harvey Elliott will join Aston Villa.

The 22-year-old is set to move on an initial loan deal but the Reds have installed an obligation to buy in the agreement that is worth €40m (£35m).

Aston Villa, who have also signed Victor Lindelof from Manchester United and are closing in on a move for Jadon Sancho, have beaten competition from RB Leipzig, who saw Elliott as their ideal replacement for Xavi Simons.

Elliott makes long-awaited move

Elliott admitted as far back as May that his future likely lay away from Liverpool.

Following the title celebrations, he admitted: “I’m just trying to enjoy every experience of it, because you never know what’s going to happen.

“You can’t take these moments for granted, you just need to enjoy it as much as you can, celebrate as much as you can as well.”

Speaking to The Anfield Wrap in July, he added: “If I had it my way, I would be here for the rest of my career, it’s as simple as that. I love everything about the club.

“But at the same time, I kind of need to be selfish with myself and see what’s best for me.

“I have big ambitions, I want to get in the World Cup [squad], keep being successful as a player.”
