Confirmed: Man Utd AGREE deal to sell Antony
Manchester United have reached a full agreement to sell Antony to Real Betis for a transfer fee of €25 million.
The Brazil international has been tipped to rejoin Betis throughout the summer transfer window, following a fruitful loan spell last year, and he is now on the verge of officially returning to the club.
That is according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, who claims that Real Betis wanted to re-sign the 25-year-old on another loan deal, but they have now agreed to pay an initial €25m package to sign him permanently.
Add-on clauses could take Betis’ expenditure to €28m, while Man Utd will retain a 50% sell-on clause.
The transfer has been confirmed by football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano, although he states that Real Betis will pay an initial fee of €22m, plus a further €3m in potential add-ons.
Antony scored nine goals and provided five assists in 26 appearances on loan at Real Betis during the second-half of last season and the Spanish club have finally reached an agreement to bring him back to La Liga after weeks of negotiations with Man Utd.
A deal was agreed in principle last week, although it was in doubt due to a dispute over the wage reduction Antony would be forced to take to join Betis. However, this has been resolved and The Athletic confirm that Man Utd will not subsidise his wages.
Antony to leave Man Utd on Deadline Day
Antony will become only the second player to leave Man Utd for a transfer fee so far this summer, following Alejandro Garnacho’s €46.2m move to Chelsea.
The Red Devils have, however, notably loaned Marcus Rashford to Barcelona, while Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia are both in talks to leave the club on Transfer Deadline Day.
Ruben Amorim’s side are also negotiating a late deal for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez as they look to purchase a replacement for Andre Onana, who is yet to feature in the Premier League this term and endured a torrid evening during Man Utd’s shock defeat to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup last week.
