Chelsea fans want Maresca sacked after Brighton loss: 'Everything's broken'
Chelsea fans are getting increasingly frustrated with Enzo Maresca's management after his side suffered a 3-1 defeat against Brighton.
The Blues' recent form is becoming a massive concern. Touted as a potential dark horse for the Premier League title ahead of the season, Chelsea are now struggling to even get near the top four.
Chelsea have not won in the league since 30 August. In midweek, they made hard work of third-tier side Lincoln in the Carabao Cup but ultimately came out on top, which is their only victory in the past five games.
On Saturday, they suffered a hugely disappointing defeat to Brighton after Trevoh Chalobah was sent off. The Blues had a 1-0 lead when the England international was dismissed and went on to concede three unanswered goals after relentless pressure from the Seagulls.
It was reminiscent of last weekend when Robert Sanchez was sent off early on against Man Utd, and the Blues went on to concede twice. Head coach Enzo Maresca came in for harsh criticism then, and he is again being questioned now.
Chelsea fans unhappy with Maresca - again
After going down to 10 men against Man Utd, Maresca opted to completely change his setup by taking off not only young winger Estevao but also Pedro Neto. He was then forced to withdraw Cole Palmer as well due to a preventable injury aggravation.
Supporters were left baffled by the Italian's decision to remove most of his attackers, but he clearly didn't learn from it. Against Brighton, he again made defensive substitutions, much to the annoyance of fans.
Maresca wanted to protect Chelsea's 1-0 lead, but it again backfired. He brought on Josh Acheampong, Malo Gusto, Benoit Badiashile and Romeo Lavia, yet Brighton managed to score three times.
"Enzo Maresca is a dead man walking," one frustrated supporter wrote on X. "Everything is broken in every single position. Tactics are broken and ruined. Discipline is completely gone."
Another fumed: "Maresca is being a coward. Subbing on defenders and a midfielder, you are at home, try and win the game." A third took no prisoners: "Maresca against 10 men is a pathetic manager."
Maresca is unlikely to face the sack anytime soon, but tension is said to be growing behind the scenes at Chelsea. It will be interesting to see how the Blues will bounce back against former manager Jose Mourinho and his Benfica side midweek.
