Palmer unhappy at Chelsea? 'Arrogant' claim spells doom for Maresca
Cole Palmer is said to be 'unsatisfied' at Chelsea, while Enzo Maresca faces criticism from the squad, according to a report.
2025 has, on the whole, been a brilliant year for the Blues. However, the optimism built up after the Conference League and Club World Cup successes, as well as Champions League qualification, is already quickly evaporating.
The new season has been a mixed bag so far. Performances haven't always been convincing, perhaps brought about by the lack of a proper pre-season, and recent results have been far from satisfactory.
Prior to the 2-1 victory over League One side Lincoln in midweek, of which Chelsea made hard work, the Blues had been winless in three after a draw with Brentford and back-to-back defeats against Bayern and Man Utd.
The game against the Red Devils, in particular, was a real headscratcher. Enzo Maresca made some bizarre personnel decisions after Robert Sanchez's early red card, and Cole Palmer had to come off early after aggravating an injury he had been carrying.
Palmer unhappy at Chelsea?
According to enigmatic 'insider' account Indykaila on X, there is significant tension at Stamford Bridge currently, with players said to be growing frustrated about the current state of affairs.
It is suggested that some members of the squad have grievances with Maresca, with 'certain players' viewing the Italian as 'arrogant.' Palmer is explicitly named and said to be 'unsatisfied' with his 'tactical role.'
The report goes so far as to imply that a managerial change could be mulled over by the club hierarchy, who have been made aware of the players' 'concerns.' However, it is surely way too early for the Blues to seriously consider sacking Maresca.
Bournemouth tactician Andoni Iraola has 'big admirers' at Chelsea, and appears to be a candidate should Maresca's job indeed come under threat. The Basque has also been associated with the Man Utd job in recent weeks.
