Liverpool’s ‘ideal scenario’ at risk as Arsenal, Chelsea and City eye free agent
Liverpool believe that three Premier League giants are circling to sign Ibrahima Konate as a free agent at the end of the season, with the Anfield club’s “ideal scenario” regarding the Frenchman now revealed.
Konate’s situation has been a concerning one for the Anfield club for some weeks, with Real Madrid having long taken an interest in the 26-year-old.
But it has now emerged that Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City all want to sign the former RB Leipzig star in a concerning twist for Arne Slot’s outfit, according to TBR Football.
The centre-back situation has grown all the more critical at Liverpool following the news of Giovanni Leoni’s ACL injury, giving the Reds more urgency to resolve the situation with Konate.
‘Liverpool fear no one’
Despite the mounting interest in the star, the Merseyside outfit are confident of a resolution in their favour.
“The ideal scenario for Liverpool is a new contract for Konate and signing Guehi on a free, but this is football and obviously neither could happen,” transfer insider Graham Bailey explained.
“Richard Hughes, though, has gone head-to-head with Europe’s finest this summer, bringing in the likes of Alexander Isak, Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike – Liverpool fear nobody, both on the pitch or off it.
“But with Konate, they are aware that it is not just the likes of Madrid and Bayern Munich who could try and make him an offer, but they accept that – why wouldn’t someone like Chelsea make an offer if he is available on a free? Although clearly they hope it does not get to that point.”
Konate has only missed one fixture for Liverpool so far this season, sitting out the Carabao Cup victory against Southampton on Tuesday as a matter of squad rotation. He is expected back alongside Virgil van Dijk for Saturday’s trip to Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
