Chelsea reportedly retain faith in Romeo Lavia’s ability, despite his immense injury problems since his arrival from Southampton in 2023.

The Belgium international has only made 23 first-team appearances for the Blues following his €62.1 million transfer from St Mary’s, while he has missed a total of 77 matches due to a variety of lower body injuries.

Lavia is now back in full training with Chelsea’s senior squad, however he has suffered eight different injuries since joining the club and Enzo Maresca is therefore unlikely to rush him back to action, despite the absence of summer signing Dario Essugo.

The 21-year-old is extremely highly-rated and “loved” at Chelsea, as per TBR Football, and the club still fully believe in him as a player, despite the plethora of injury issues he has suffered over the past two years.

However, the January transfer window could potentially be interesting for Lavia if he is fully fit, but unable to break into Chelsea’s preferred starting XI.

Romeo Lavia to leave Chelsea in January?

TBR Football claim that Lavia could look to leave Stamford Bridge in order to boost his chances of being selected in Belgium’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Manchester United reportedly submitted a late approach for Lavia during the summer window, but this was swiftly rejected by Chelsea, and the Red Devils appear to have turned their attention to finalising an ambitious deal for Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson in January.

Several other unnamed clubs are also interested in agreeing a January deal for Lavia, despite his injury troubles, and the 21-year-old is therefore expected to be the subject of a number of enquiries during the winter transfer window.

Despite this, Chelsea are unlikely to sanction a departure as they evidently believe Lavia can still play a pivotal role at Stamford Bridge.

The Belgium star is currently behind Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, while Andrey Santos may also have leapfrogged the ex-Southampton midfielder courtesy of his substitute performances so far this season.
